What is Target CPA?

Also known as tCPA.

Definition

Target CPA is an automated bid strategy where you state the average cost per conversion you want and the platform sets individual bids to hit that average. It is a target, not a cap: some conversions cost more, some less, and the strategy aims for the mean across the campaign. Your maximum sustainable target is your gross profit per order.

What to know

Set the target too low and the platform stops entering auctions it cannot win at that price, so volume collapses instead of efficiency improving. A large downward move is the usual explanation for a campaign that suddenly stops spending.

It needs conversion volume to work. With a thin signal the strategy is estimating from very little, which is why consolidating similar campaigns often beats splitting them into small, individually starved ones.
