How do I connect Google Ads to Claude?

The four steps

• Open Claude's settings, find connectors, and add a custom connector. Check that your Claude plan supports custom connectors before you start, because that is the step people get stuck on.
• Paste the server URL. For Muze that is https://backend.muzecmo.com/mcp.
• Complete the Google OAuth consent screen. Authorize only the Google Ads accounts you want reachable, not everything the login can see.
• Start a new conversation and ask Claude to list your connected accounts, so you can confirm the right customer IDs came through before you ask anything that matters.

Which server to connect

Google ships its own MCP server. It is free, first-party and read-only, which makes it the strictest option in the category and a complete answer if all you want is reporting. The case for a third-party server starts where you want Claude to do something rather than describe it: add the negatives that came out of the search term report, move budget between campaigns that are pacing badly, pause the ad group that has missed target for a fortnight. You can run both. MCP clients support more than one connected server, so nothing here forces a single choice.

The first question to ask

Do not open with a question you cannot check. Ask for the last 7 days of spend, conversions and cost per acquisition on one campaign, then open the Google Ads UI and compare. You are testing whether the numbers match, not whether the prose is impressive.

Two things commonly differ and neither is a bug: the account timezone, and which conversion actions are counted in the Conversions column. If either is set differently from what you assumed, every number downstream is wrong, and it is much better to find that out in minute five than in month two.

What usually goes wrong

• You signed in with the wrong Google identity. Plenty of people have a personal and a work login live in the same browser, and the consent screen does not shout about which one it used.
• The account sits under a manager account and your login cannot grant application access. Someone with the right permission on the manager account has to do it.
• Your Claude plan does not support custom connectors. That is an account tier question, not a configuration one.
• The connector appears but no tools show up. Usually the OAuth flow did not finish. Remove it and add it again rather than debugging inside the chat.
• Claude answers a question about your account without calling a tool. If the reply contains no tool call, you are reading training data, not your account. Ask it to call the tool by name.

Where to go from there

Once reads are working, decide whether you want write access at all. That is a real decision rather than a formality, and both sides of it are argued in should I let AI change my ad budget.

Can I connect more than one Google Ads account?

Yes. Authorize each account you want reachable and the assistant passes an explicit customer ID on every call. Being precise about which account you mean matters more as you add more of them.

What if my accounts sit under a manager account?

Authorization follows the permissions your Google login already has. If your access under the manager account is read-only, that is what the connector gets. If you cannot grant application access today, you will need someone who can.
