What is Audience exclusion?

Definition

Audience exclusion stops your ads showing to a defined group, such as existing customers, recent purchasers, current subscribers or job applicants. It is the least interesting targeting control and often the most profitable, because the alternative is paying to advertise to people who were already going to buy or who cannot buy at all.

What to know

The standard three are recent purchasers excluded from prospecting, existing customers excluded from a new-customer offer, and converters excluded from a retargeting pool that would otherwise keep chasing them after they bought.

Exclusions are only as current as the list behind them. A customer file that syncs once a week will keep serving new-customer discounts to people who bought on Tuesday.
