Short answer
Yes, once you connect it to an MCP server that has write access to your Meta ad account. ChatGPT on its own has no connection to Ads Manager and cannot create anything. With a connector added, you describe the campaign in chat and it is built in your real account. With Muze it is built paused, so you review the whole structure in Ads Manager before any money moves.
What "create a campaign" actually covers
A connected assistant assembles the real object, not a description of one: campaign objective, budget and schedule, ad set structure, audience and placements, the ads themselves with copy and creative attached, and the tracking configuration.
It works from your brief plus what already exists in the account. Existing audiences, existing creative, existing naming conventions. That is why it is faster than the UI for anyone who builds the same shape of campaign repeatedly.
What you still have to decide
- The offer. No model knows what discount your margin tolerates.
- The creative. Generating an image is not media buying, and the asset that works is usually one you already have.
- The dataset and conversion event. Optimizing for the wrong event is the single most expensive default in Meta.
- Exclusions and compliance. Existing customers, restricted claims, anything your legal team cares about.
An assistant will pick a sensible default for anything you leave out. Sensible defaults are how accounts end up optimizing for Traffic when the brief meant Purchases.
How to set it up in ChatGPT
- Open ChatGPT Settings, then Connectors, then Add custom connector. Check that your plan supports custom connectors before you start.
- Paste https://backend.muzecmo.com/mcp as the connector URL.
- Sign in with Muze and authorize the specific ad accounts you want available.
- Ask something read-only first, such as listing your connected accounts and last 7 days of performance, to confirm the numbers match Ads Manager.
Then brief the build: give it the objective, the offer, the audience, the budget and the guardrails, and ask for it paused. Full steps are in the connection guide.
The honest limits
Campaign creation is a write action, so it needs a paid plan. The free tier is 25 read-only tool calls a month and cannot build anything. New campaigns are always created paused, which is a deliberate constraint rather than a missing feature.
And if Meta is the only place you advertise, Meta's own official MCP server is free during its beta and does write operations too. Use it. The argument for Muze starts when Google, Amazon or Shopify revenue enter the picture.
Related questions
- Can ChatGPT create Facebook ads without a connector?
- No. Without an MCP connector or a similar integration, ChatGPT has no access to your ad account. It can write copy, but it cannot build or launch anything.
- Will the campaign go live as soon as it is created?
- Not with Muze. New campaigns are created paused, so you review the build in Ads Manager and activate it yourself when you are satisfied.
- Do I need a Meta developer account for this?
- No. The connection is OAuth, so there is no developer app, no access token and no App Review on your side.
- Can Claude do the same thing?
- Yes. MCP is client-agnostic, so the same connector works in Claude, Cursor, Claude Code and other MCP clients.
- Does campaign creation work on the free plan?
- No. The free plan is read-only. Creating campaigns, changing budgets and pausing ads all require a paid plan.
