In short
To run Meta Ads from ChatGPT you need an MCP server that ChatGPT can call on your behalf. With Muze the setup is: create a Muze account, authorize your Meta ad account over OAuth, then add Muze as a custom connector in ChatGPT using the Muze MCP URL. ChatGPT can then read campaign performance, and on a paid plan it can prepare changes such as pausing an ad or building a campaign. Every write previews first and waits for your explicit confirmation, and new campaigns are always created paused.
ChatGPT cannot see your ad account on its own. It has no route into the Meta API, and pasting a screenshot of Ads Manager gets you a summary of a screenshot. What bridges the two is MCP, the Model Context Protocol: a standard way for an AI client to call real tools against real accounts. An MCP server for Meta gives ChatGPT functions like get_meta_performance, list_campaigns_detailed and pause_ad, and the model picks which ones to call based on what you asked in plain English.
The setup takes a few minutes and the reading side is free. The part worth being careful about is the writing side, because a chat window that can change budgets is a chat window that can cost you money. That is why the sequence below puts reads first, and why Muze previews every write before it runs.
Connect Meta Ads to ChatGPT in six steps
Create a Muze account
Sign up for Muze and start on the free tier, which includes 25 read-only tool calls per month. No credit card is required, and nothing on this tier can change your ad account.
Authorize your Meta ad account
From your Muze account, authorize Meta. The connection is OAuth: you sign in to Meta directly, Muze never asks for your platform password, and access is scoped to the ad accounts you choose.
There is no developer application to file and no long-lived API token to generate, store or rotate. If you have ever tried to get your own Meta app through review just to pull spend into a spreadsheet, this is the step that usually takes a week and here does not. Access is revocable from both sides: remove the connection in Muze, or remove the app from your Meta business settings, and the tools stop working immediately.
Add Muze as a custom connector in ChatGPT
In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Connectors, then Add custom connector, and enter the Muze MCP URL: https://backend.muzecmo.com/mcp. ChatGPT will ask you to sign in to Muze to authorize the connection.
Custom connector support depends on your ChatGPT plan and on what OpenAI has rolled out to your account, so check the Connectors screen before assuming the option is missing. The same connector URL works in Claude, Cursor, Claude Code, Codex and any other MCP-compatible client, so you are not locked into one assistant. Nothing is installed on your machine and there is no config file to hand-edit.
Verify the connection before you ask anything real
Ask ChatGPT to list your connected ad accounts. It should call get_my_accounts and return your Meta ad account IDs. If that comes back empty, the authorization did not complete and no other tool will work.
Start with read-only questions
Ask for last week's performance, your worst-performing ads, or a comparison against the previous period. Muze covers Meta with 37 tools, 16 of them read, including get_meta_performance, get_ad_insights and compare_meta_performance.
Spend your first session checking that the numbers match Ads Manager. They should, and if they do not you want to find that out while the assistant is still read-only. Pay attention to the attribution window and the date range the model chose, because most disagreements between an AI answer and a dashboard turn out to be a date range problem rather than a data problem.
Move to writes once you trust the reads
Write actions require a paid plan. When you ask ChatGPT to pause an ad or change a budget, Muze returns a preview of the exact change and waits for your explicit confirmation. New campaigns are created paused, so nothing starts spending until you activate it.
What this actually changes about your week
The gain is not that an AI writes your ad copy. It is that the twenty minutes you spend every morning opening Ads Manager, setting a date range, exporting a CSV and eyeballing it becomes one sentence. The questions you ask casually are the ones you would never bother opening a dashboard for: which ad set quietly doubled its CPA yesterday, whether frequency is climbing on the audience you scaled last week, how much you spent on ads that produced nothing.
It also collapses the gap between noticing a problem and fixing it. Today you find the losing ad in one tab and pause it in another, so the finding and the fix are separate chores and the second one gets postponed. In a chat the fix is the next sentence, and it still cannot run until you say yes.
If Meta is your only channel
Use Meta's own official MCP server. It is free, it is first-party, and it takes about five minutes. We would rather say that than pretend otherwise.
Muze earns its place when Meta is not the whole picture. One connection also covers Google Ads, Amazon Ads and Shopify, which is what lets you ask the questions that no single-platform tool can answer: what your blended return is against real store revenue, whether Google is taking credit for demand Meta created, and where the marginal dollar should go this week. That is 149 tools in one connection rather than four servers, four authorizations and four mental models.
What to ask in your first session
- “List my connected ad accounts and summarize Meta performance for the last 7 days.”
- “Which Meta ads spent more than $100 last week with zero purchases?”
- “Compare this month against last month by campaign, and tell me what changed most.”
- “Pause the three worst ads by cost per purchase, but show me the list before you do anything.”
Frequently asked questions
- Can ChatGPT actually change my Meta campaigns, or only read them?
- Both, depending on your plan. The free tier is 25 read-only tool calls per month. Write actions such as pausing an ad, editing a budget or creating a campaign require a paid plan, and every one of them returns a preview first and waits for your explicit confirmation.
- Do I need a Meta developer account or an API token?
- No. The connection is OAuth. You sign in to Meta, choose which ad accounts to authorize, and Muze never sees your password. There is no developer application to file and no access token for you to mint or rotate.
- How much does it cost?
- The free tier includes 25 read-only tool calls per month across all connected platforms. Write actions require a paid plan. Muze charges a flat subscription and never takes a percentage of your ad spend, because a tool that earns more when you spend more is not on your side.
- Which AI clients does the same connector work with?
- ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, Claude Code, Codex and any other MCP-compatible client. You bring your own AI, so Muze does not charge you for model tokens.
- Can it spend money without asking me?
- No. Every write previews first and requires explicit confirmation, and new campaigns are created paused. An AI that misreads one prompt should cost you a click, not a weekend of budget.
- Does the MCP support TikTok or LinkedIn ads?
- No. The Muze MCP covers Meta Ads, Google Ads, Amazon Ads and Shopify only. The wider Muze platform covers more channels, but do not expect to reach them through the MCP connector.
- What happens to my access if I stop using it?
- Revoke it. Access is scoped to the accounts you authorized and can be removed from your Muze account or from your Meta business settings, and the tools stop returning data immediately.
