What is Creative hook?

Also known as Hook.

Definition

A creative hook is the opening of an ad, the first frame or line that decides whether anyone consumes the rest of it. In short-form vertical video that is roughly the first three seconds. Everything after the hook is only seen by the people the hook kept, which is why it moves performance more than any other part of the ad.

What to know

Hooks that work usually do one of three things: name the problem the viewer already has, show the product doing the thing immediately, or open a loop the viewer wants closed. Hooks that fail usually open with the brand name, which is information nobody scrolling has asked for yet.

Because it is one isolated variable, the hook is the cheapest thing to test. Recutting the same ad body with three different openings is faster than producing three ads and more likely to move the number.
